The Ammannia crassicaulis is a bog plant that can reach up to 50 cm. In the planted community, this plant is commonly known as Nesaea crassicaulis, found mainly in swamps, rice marshes, and alongside streams throughout the African and Madagascan tropics.
Oftentimes the crassicaulis is mistaken for the Ammannia gracilis, more than likely due to the number of similarities they share. In nature this plant is known to have bright vibrant red leaves, however, in the planted tank community, much of the red luster is lost and replaced with a more greenish-yellow to dull red.
