The Anubias barteri var. barteri can be found in the rapid flowing waters of the rivers of South West Africa, often growing in a shady area on top of large rocks or tree trunks while being partially or fully submersed underwater. This plant is very easy to take care of without having to put in place a complicated regimen. Not only does it thrive in low lighting environments, the pH level of the water or is hardness do not play a significant role in the plant's ability to thrive so this plant is ideal for various ecosystem conditions. Nevertheless, with more intense lighting and injected CO2, the plant will grow at a much more rapid pace in the leaves will grow much larger in size. The slow-growing plants is normally used for the middleground and background of large-sized aquariums, providing an aesthetically appealing contrast to soft textured plants like mosses and stem plants with fine leaves.
