Elatine triandra is a delightful foreground plant.

Nice foreground plants are always appreciated and Elatine triandra is no exception. This inhabitant of mud flats and pond edges is rather rare in nature, where it occurs in a scattered fashion across the Northern Hemisphere. It is not suited to commercial propagation due to its tendency to ship very poorly and is therefore best obtained from other hobbyists as healthy cuttings or seeds.

Its small stem width of ½ to 1 inch, rich bright green color, and ease of growth make it a beautiful choice in any size aquarium. The somewhat elongated and rosette-like leaves at the stem’s end make it a unique foreground plant.

  • Three-stamen waterwort
